I'm looking at the Accord coupes, and 3 models out of 4 have moon
    roofs.

Are they for ventilation, or just for show? When open, do they make a
lot of wind noise? Do they leak a lot?

I guess since I'm asking this, I better buy the LX-G which doesn't
    have the moon roof....

    useful purpose. Noisy. $

My '94 Civic has a moon roof. I have had no leaks or other problems so
far. At highway speeds it gets too noisy to be comfortable, but driving
at 40 and below it is fine. I open it every chance I get, I really enjoy
the open-air feeling. I have found that air does not enter through the
open moon roof, rather it escapes there, and it does improve the flow of
    air through the cabin somewhat.

I just parted with my 1982 Prelude - the moonroof never leaked in the 23 years
I had it. I was worried when I first bought it (new), since I had heard horror
stories. Yes, they make lots of noise when open on the highways. My new 2004
Civic EX has a moonroof visor, which helps cut a lot of that noise, but makes
    the roof opening smaller.

It's the best way to cool off a hot car on a summer day. Less work for the a/c
if you open the roof and let the hot air rise right out! I wouldn't buy a car
    without a moon/sunroof.

A moon roof is for mooning people. You open it. Stand with butts above
the roof. Pull down your pants to moon. Other than that, it's useless.

It used to be used to see the moon. Now, with all these smog, it's
    delegated to mooning.

  8. I've owned 5 Hondas/Acuras with moonroofs and they do *not* leak and
require minimal maintenance: a rub of the rubber with silicone spray soaked
towelette and a spritz of grease in the slides and mechanism from time to
time . On an Spring or early Summer day, where A/C is not required, I
really enjoy an open roof - a matter of taste. It doesn't transform your
car into a sports car but it's the next best thing. Wind noise, even at
freeway speeds, although obviously increased, is not a problem for me but
then I rarely listen to the radio or CD player.

Only drawback I've heard is for tall folks, especially long-bodied - the
headroom is reduced by enough to bother them.

Another plus for a moon-roof is that the interior will be much brighter
even with the glass roof closed. I found this a boon on dreary days.

No leaks. It's a nice, relatively quiet way to get air circulation without
having to 'roll' down the windows (which *does* create a lot of noise). As
another poster said, it brightens things up inside, which *can* be good.

Like George said . . . avoid them if you're tall. A pain in the neck. :-(

I'm in a hot, dry climate. When I park (in sun) I leave the moon roof open
about 2 inches. It helps cool the car.

Yup, they do contribute to passenger-compartment noise, but it's not
true that they all leak eventually.
My experience with them includes a 15.5 year-old Celica and a
13.5-year-old Bonneville, neither of which has ever leaked a drop yet.
Eventually, without maintenance, the rubber gaskets will fail and
leakage will occur, but my point is that an owner has a good chance of
getting through the actual life of a car withOUT any problems.

Absolutely, I literally did no maintenance on my moonroof for 23 years and it
worked perfectly until the end. I admit I was nervous, especially since the
owner's manual talked about "clogs" and such, but luckily for me I had no
    problems.

Leak possibility aside, I like them.. They do cut down on head room,
but I find that when it is open, its more comfortable than opening a
window for ventilation.. And less noisy.. I have a sunroof though..
I think the moon roof is see through and a sun roof is not..

Here in FL I rarely use mine.

In the summer its to hot. On the highway, its to noisy. On sunny
    days, its to much sun.

It really eats up the head room. I wonder what the statistics are for
    increased injuries in accidents.

While we were in the car today, I shot a look at my husband in the passenger
seat. He's 6'1" and his head almost touched the roof - he's not complaining
    though :)
Both my cars were listed as having "moonroofs" - both were powered, both were
tinted (and semi-see-through) and both had sliding sunshades. My Civic EX also
has the tilt feature, which I absolutely love!
