I have a Honda Civic dx Hatchback 1998 5 speed manual. I was wondering if
there is a way to find out what the size of the engine is? 1.4, 1.5,1.6 L? I
bought it in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I heard that Honda Civic's
sold in the States, Japan, Canada have different engine sizes. Are there any
symbols on the engine which tell you what the size of the engine is?

    Thanks

It's most likely a 1.6L. You can look at the plate on the engine itself and
you'll probably see D16Y7 plus the serial number... the 16 in the stands for
    1.6 L.

Also your VIN should be something like this:

    2HG EJ6*********** It may be EJ8... nonetheless the EJ6 or EJ8 identifies
that the engine is a D16 or 1.6L

Thanks Fluffy. I checked my VIN and it is:
    2HGE J6...
So that makes it a D16.
By the way, is there a difference between a D16 and a 1.6L engine?

    Thanks in advance,

D16 is a designation given by Honda for that particular generation of motor.
I believe the main purpose of that is strictly identification reasons.

1.6L simply means that the engine size is 1.6 liter, if you have 1.6 liter
of water... you would fill up the engine.
