Hi,

Just interested in knowing what the difference is of older model VTECs and
newer models.
For example a 1990 Integra is a 1.8L VTEC and so is a 1998 Integra or 2001
Type R. Does this mean they perform the same? Are the exactly the same
engine? What differences do they have?

Thanks

No,they don't all have the same levels of performance.
Different cam profiles,pistons,compression ratios,different ECU
programs,different intake/exhaust systems.There's a lot of variables.
The "SAME" engine in any particular car can vary from country to
country,too.
Consider Japan Domestic Manufacture(JDM) engines vs US engines.

VTEC simply means Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control

Almost every or perhaps every Honda car engine made after 1997 had VTEC
technology. I'm sure that if I am wrong--someone will post a response that
has the correct information.

-ROGER THAT BILL

P.S. I LIKE CHEESE

no, not all honda engines after 97 have vtec, civic dx's for example still
do not come with vtec

Most Civic's don't have VTEC. The only Civic with VTEC are the "sport" 127
HP ones and the 160 HP SIR (Canadian model). The basic 115 HP Civic does
not have VTEC.

not at all, the civic vti has a 1.6 165 ps or 1.8 180 ps vtec engine

i have a civic with a 1.5 vtec-e engine (vtec for economical use)
it has 115 ps and does 6 l/100 km
