In case you were interested in knowing the outcome....

The Honda dealer did the 'right' thing - they paid for a rental equivalent
of my choice for my drive/stay in California, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and
completely replaced the engine in my Honda CRV.

There's a 150 new miles on this engine and so far, all is well.

Still a pain in the butt to deal with and I don't know that I'll ever buy a
brand new car again but I did not have to go to court to get repairs done.

When I asked our Lexus dealer about Lexus' policy in a situation like this,
I was told they usually tried to find a used engine or rebuild the existing
engine at the dealer. This was in response the questions concerning the
problems Toyota has been having with oil gelling in their V6 engines. It
appears that Honda does it right.
