I have a 2003 Civic LX and my wife has a 1997 Civic LX. It seems that
the interior sound level of the newer model is noticeably higher than
the older model. This includes noticing sounds like other cars passing
and things, not just things like tire noise and engine noise from the
car itself. Has the window sealing changed or something else that
might have made such a difference?

  2. I have a 2002 civic and the interior noise is rather high. Before I
purchased the car I mentioned it to the dealer and they acknowledged this
increased noise and recommend one of those expensive permanent tar based
rust treatments. This apparently will help with the noise.

  3. My wife got the sound deadening treatment (it wasn't that expensive - only
$160) and it has worked on her 2003 Civic EX.

My wife got the sound deadening treatment (it wasn't that expensive - only
Was that through the dealer? Is it called something special?

  5. funny I thought just the opposite
we had a 97 civic lx and I didn't like the car much one of the reasons was
the noise inside the car my 2003 civic LX doesn't seem to be as high of
    noise level
I'm very happy with it compared to the 97

My 91 Civic came with that treatment from the factory. The tar treatment
might be back for the 2004 models.

That's interesting. I was wondering if it was because I bought an
end-of-year model that may have been sitting out in the sun a while
(it still had 0 miles and protective wrap on it, though). My noise
comes more from the surrounding than from the road, so I don't know if
extra coating would help. For example, I can hear cars going the other
way much more than in my wife's older car. That makes me think that
either the sealing around the window(s) is not working as well, the
glass does not reflect as well, or noise gets through the door more
(which the mentioned treatments might help).

  8. She got it through the dealer and I think it's just called the sound
deadening undercoating treatment (it's not the rustproofing undercoating,
which is more expensive and extensive). The price was originally higher,
but the dealer said they'd match Ziebart's price after she told the dealer
what Ziebart's price was. The dealer's undercoating sounded like it might
be better quality also - I think they sub it out and don't do it on the
premises. Don't know if it's available everywhere, but we're in the
    Chicago suburbs.

    Hope this helps.

  9. not sure what to tell you. I just bought my 2003 2 week ago it had 7 miles
    on it.
Just because its an end of year doesn't mean its been sitting out in the lot
    all year.

maybe its just me but I'm pretty happy about everything on my civic. I
thinks its quieter than my wife's 97 civic was.
in 99 she traded in on a Pontiac grand am. in looking back I think that was
a mistake should have got an accord.
grand am I hear a lot of ground noise too, but she's happy. this time I
decided to go for the Honda and I couldn't be happier...knock on wood :)
my mom bought a 2003 accord a few months ago and is very happy with it.
in some ways I like my civic better than her accord maybe I'm nuts who knows
    :)

  10. It's all relative. In the past three weeks I have gone from driving a 1989
Accord LX to a brand new 2003 Civic LX and I'm staggered at how much quieter
the Civic is. It's actually taken me some time to adjust to driving it just
because there are engine and road sounds that I'm used to hearing from my old
car that I'm no longer hearing. It made me feel out of touch with my
    surroundings.

I have a 2003 Civic LX and my wife has a 1997 Civic LX. It seems that
I was wrong! The other day, my wife was in my car and I asked her
which one was quieter. She said the new one. Interesting. So, today I
was in an older one ... and it was louder! My memory was playing
tricks on me. LMAO at myself!
