I have a broken outer driver's side door handle (thanks to an
attempted car thief) on my 1997 Honda Accord 4-door DX.

What's the best way to remove the old door handle so I can install a
    replacement?

Your parts diagrams at www.slhondaparts.com should show you what screws
hold it down. Look through these threads an you'll see references to
free Euro service manuals. should work for you too. Careful not to
scratch the paint: Tape lots of boxboard all around the outside of the
door area where you'll be working.

Remove the interior door panel. After that it's all pretty simple, if
    fiddly for lack of room.
