It would help to know if this is a hatchback, coupe or sedan. For the
coupe and sedan, you have to remove the rear shelf (the fabric covered
part, held in place by clips). Then remove the 4 screws that hold the
speaker in place. Disconnect the speaker connector and remove speaker.

For the hatchback, you have to remove each speaker cover (held in place
with clips) rather than the shelf.

it is a coupe thanks for the response. Any tips on the best way to go about
    getting the back shelf off?

Unfortunately the service manual does not go in much detail on this. You
can find the relevant two pages at
http://www.geocities.com/ng_randolph/ymist/pages.pdf. You may be able to
find the entire manual using your favorite file sharing program.

If the coupe is like the sedan in this respect, you will also have to remove
the rear seatback, or parts thereof, to access the shelf.
