Power steering stopped working while I was driving

I was driving down the street, a normal afternoon and my steering wheel became hard to turn. I have a 2005 Honda accord hybrid. I went to a part store an hard a diagnostic test but the codes the gave me were for a transmission sensor (p1717 & p0706) I thought that was odd considering the car hasn't been shifting funny or anything. Is there anything I can do without thank it to a dealer.
