Can anyone out there tell me why a Toyota Highlander might be better than a
Honda Pilot? I haven't test-driven the Highlander yet, but I am curious if
    I should bother?

  2. Both are excellent vehicles--about equal in terms of quality. I advise you
to test drive both of them and buy the one you like the best. Also, take
into consideration the horsepower of the engines in each vehicle. This is
especially true if you plan to tow items such as a trailer or camper.

If that is the case then the horsepower isn't the figure to worry
about, it's the Torque. Could also take a look at the Mtisubishi
Endeavor. More fun, lots of torque, and less money with a much longer
    warranty.

  4. All good points, but probably much less resale value later on down the
road. Honda and Toyota always seem to retain their value much more
than the others and I know Mitsubishi cars aren't considered to have
    high resale value.

  5. I testdrove all the comparable SUVs out there when I was in the market
for one. Testdrove the Highlander right before the Pilot came out.
Once the Pilot came out, I was sold. I testdrove the HL right after I
took the Pilot for a spin just to be sure and there was no change in
my mind. But it really all depends on how you perceive a good ride
    and handling.

Best bet is for you to testdrive both vehicles on the sameday and
decide then. I didn't even care about the 3rd row seats in the Pilot.
I knew I'd barely use it anyway.

There's are a few very good comparison reports over at
www.hondapilot.org. One active member used to own a HL before he
    bought the Pilot.

I believe that is on the mend now. With the new products from '02 and
up replacing or in some cases adding onto the current models, the
major jump in quality, the longer warranties, and, most importantly,
them beating Honda in a number of places on the JD Powers and other
consumer tests... Well, I think it's going to improve a bit. Then
again, if I spent another $4,500 to save $2,000 in resale down the
road it just doesn't make much sense... ;)

I definitely wouldn't buy a Pilot without first driving the
Highlander. They are both great vehicles. I am not sure which one I
would pick if I had to do it over again. Lots of good things to say
    about the Highlander.

  8. Better? I don't know, but there is a 2 wheel drive option.

Personally, I can't see myself EVER buying another Mitsubishi. I
purchased one new in the late 80's, and really took it in the shorts.
The quality and service were terrible! I'm sure they are vastly
improved since then, but my perception is still that they are a
    "second rate" import.

I'd rather buy a domestic than get a Mitsubishi, and for me, thats a
    bold statement!
