Pilot locks by itself

Our Pilot locks itself after sitting in the drive for a while. I know about
the thing where if you unlock with the remote, it will relock again. Not
    that.

When we pull into the drive and get out without locking, and then come out
in several hours to go out again, it's locked. Is there something we don't
know? Or is there a problem with the car?

    Love our Pilot!

The Pilot is fairly new, so I've never seen it with the problem, but you
could have a bad driver's door lock actuator. If it "senses" that the door
has been locked it will signal all of the other door to lock too. (assuming
that Honda hasn't changed that way it works).

Are you sure someone with a control in their pocket isn't bumping a button.
I have that problem as my office is over the driveway and once in a while I
find a power sliding door open...

Don't think so. Our remotes take a little work to operate, and we're aware
of that and being careful. It goes in for it's first 7500 mile service
soon, so I'll ask the dealer to look at it.

I have an after market remote starter, that locks/unlocks the doors as well.
It has a setting that allows it to lock the doors of the vehicle after a
certain amount of time elapses. You may have the same option. I would
suggest getting out of the vehicle, and waiting to see how long it takes for
the doors to lock, to verify that it is doing it on it's own.

  6. I agree with the person that suggested that you test it by leaving the
doors unlocked and measuring how much time it takes the doors to lock.
Repost after you have conducted this test. In a way--unless you have left
the keys in the car--this seems like a great feature since all of us on
occassion have forgot to lock the vehicle. Also do a separate test with
the windows down and the keys in the lock mounted on steering wheel--it's
possible the doors won't lock automatically if the keys are in the
    steering wheel lock.

Tried that- it doesn't happen every time. The times I sat in the driveway
waiting for it, it didn't! I'll try again.

Here is my take on this problem...

The alarm system will remotely lock the doors on the Pilot after 30 seconds
+/- 15 seconds in a couple of instances:

    1. If the lights are left, the alarm/keyless entry will turn off the lights
and lock the doors. Note if the lights are left on and the keys are in the
ignition the truck should not lock!!
    2. If the truck is locked by the FOB and then unlocked by the FOB and no
door is opened within the above time limit.

My experience with this system is not good. We have a 2003 EX and twice I
have had to rescue the wife for keys locked in the truck, due to the above
conditions. In both cases, the keys were left in the truck and the lights
    were on.

I discussed this with my Honda dealer. I wanted to turn this "feature" off,
but it cannot be done. Additionally, I wanted to add an external keypad
(similar to my 95 Explorer), but none was available.

If I had bought the lower end model (LX) and had the dealer install the
optional alarm, the autolock could be disabled. But on the factory
installed alarm, it cannot (how about that!!!)

Anyway, you might try http://www.honda-pilot.org/ for additional
    information.

    Regards

    Jeff

Thanks for the insight. Don't think we left the lights on, but may have.

What has happened to us is that we will inadvertently lock the car from
inside the house by handling the Remote Control or it hitting something in
    my pocket.

It's possible you have two alarm systems on your Pilot both operating with
the same fob and the added system is causing this malfunction. Most dealers
install aftermarket (non honda) security systems on their new vehicles for
financing and insurance purposes due to vandalism in their lot. One way to
check if you have two systems: is there only one red light blinking when
you arm the system (in the instrument cluster)? if so then you have just a
factory system installed. Or do you see an additional light blinking
(besides the one on the radio) when you arm it. Either way you should bring
it back to your dealer for assistance.
