The CD player in our '99 Accord displayed a "PEO" error code today when
my wife tried to play a CD. A Google search pretty much confirmed my
suspicion that this isn't a good thing, but I couldn't find exactly what
the code meant. Looks like I'm in for a repair - I have a Hondacare
extended warranty on the car, but I haven't yet confirmed that it covers
the radio/CD player. Anyone else ever had this error code pop up before?

I also have a '99 Accord and started getting this error and other failures
to play discs a few months ago. I don't have an extended warranty and no
longer use the local Honda dealer for service, instead I use a great Honda
certified technician. He indicated this is a fairly common 'feature' and
eventually the only solution is to replace the unit. He said he had seen
people pay to get the units repaired but the 'feature' returned. It seems a
weak design of the unit and is most irritating. I hope that your warranty
    will cover the unit.

My technician suggested using a cleaning disc to see if it helped. It does
to an extent. I could get a few discs to play after cleaning the lens. You
might want to try a lens cleaner disc to see if that helps but based on my
experience and that of my technician is that the unit is failing so the
cleaning will just delay the evitable.

A similar topic came up a month or so back and some 'expert' jumped all over
a reply that suggested using a lens cleaner without first performing every
possible evaluation of the unit to determine if there was some other
solution. I have no idea what tests can be made, especially with the unit
in the dash. The portable RCA CD player I purchased to temporarily
'augment; my in-dash CD player suggests using lens cleaners if the playback
does not work so apparently RCA believes lens cleaners are not horrible.
But, I am sure they don't know nearly as much as the average newsgroup
    poster. (-;

"PEO" USUALLY means Player Error Optical, which means in most cases the
laser has malfunctioned. When this happens of course,no CD or disc will
play.Replacement of the unit is usually indicated.
