So i bought a used 2016 Honda Pilot EX-L, ~202000km on purchase, from a Hyundai Dealer. Test test drives were great, no issue.

Had my mechanic look it over. Few minor issue found that were corrected by the dealer before purchase.

I drove it two months and ~2000km without issue. Drove well, felt fine, no sign of impending trouble...

I turned car on with remote start hear weird noise from engine. The display then rotated through a series all systems failures.

Diagnosis from my mechanic was "Engine Light on, Misfire cyl 5, (p0305) Swap Coil and plug cyl 5 to 3 fault still present cyl 5, Heavy knock heard in bottom end of engine, requires engine replacement cyl 5 mechanical fault."

Mechanic got me replacement engine with ~175000km.

Drove car home (~8km), no issue.

Next start car, started no issue. After about 3 minutes warming up while i loaded car, the same all system failure lights came back.

No weird noises from engine, it sounded fine, but turned it off and had it towed to garage.

This time mechanic says replaced two coils and belt. I don't yet have repair statement as it was covered by the engine supplier, so i may not have the best description of this repair.

Once again, i drive the car home (~8km), no issue, all good.

Next day fire car up, cold day, warming up at 3 mins while loading car, and same series of all systems failures lights start cycling.

Any thoughts are welcome, but obviously, the issue wasn't fixed on the replacement engine on the first repair.

Is just a case of bad luck on the engine? Is mechanic, not being a Honda mechanic, perhaps missing something on the hookup from the replacement motor?

I have now been almost two months without the car, due to all the repair time.

I have a video of the system light that came on, not sure if this sight supports short video uploads?
