Interesting....My maintenance required light went on today, and I received
an email from Honda regarding the 6 month service. The light is total
bullshit just to get you into the service area and pay 175 dollars for an
    oil change and tire rotation....

    What do you guys think?
    It's a 2002 Accord.

If you don't know how to do either of those things yourself... you've got
much MUCH bigger problems in life.

  3. If your dealer charges $175 for an oil change and tire rotation....

Obviously, you're exaggerating because (a) you're about 19 years old,
and (b) you hate your dealer.

My dealer is competitive with the quick lube places on oil changes and
tire rotations. And of course, while *my* dealership mechanic is in
there, he glances at the brakes and looks for obvious stuff--just
because that's who he is and what he does.

If your dealer's service compromises only of oil change and tire rotation
then its not a service. These two things can be done by any auto repair shop
and at much cheaper rate. Plus they will also check all the fluid levels
etc. .....Jiffy lube is quite decent in this sense. They charge about $30 for
oil change but also check the other fluids.

That list of stuff is NOT worth $165.

Have you tried simply opening the hood and looking at the fluid levels
yourself? Everything but the oil is in a see through container with MAX and
    MIN marked on the side.

If the wipers don't smear when you use them, they pass inspection. Belts
will squeal if they need any help. Hoses & fuel lines will leak if there is
anything wrong with them (look under the car for drips/puddles, plus they
    all have distinctive odors).

If your brakes need anything after the first six months, you need to go back
to driving school. Steering, alignment, suspension, parking brake are all
"inspected" by you every time you drive the car. Does it go straight if you
loosen your grip on the wheel? Does it make funny noises when you go over
bumps? Does the parking brake hold the car in place when set by about 5
    clicks?

I can pretty much guarantee you that they do not spend 90 minutes on the
car. It might sit in their bay for 90 minutes. These canned "services" are
virtually always a rip off. Just look in your owner's manual and pay them
to do exactly what it says to do, no more & no less and put the rest of that
money in the bank for when it really needs something fixed.

The light is just a reminder that your oil change interval is up. You can
do what you want. Have you read your owner's manual about how to reset the
    light?

  7. Oh. Didn't you get my bill in the mail? Reading this post just cost
    you $600; pay up, bub.

It's nice that they put that out there. You can use that slip to line
    your bird cage.

Your owner's manual spells it all out. Follow that.

you are probably right.any mechanic can reset the maintenance light in about
5 seconds.all it is will be for him to push a button and wait about a
minute.he'll gladly sign your book for about another 5 bucks.

You can reset the light yourself in about 5 seconds. Scan your owners
    manual. It's in there.
