HONDA CRV 1996 2000 PETROL HEAD GASKET

Discussion in 'CR-V' started by beermontypython, Aug 21, 2007.

  1. Well after posting these 2 messages I decided to carry out another
check. I left the car ticking over for about 15 mins absolutely no
sign of anything, I left it for a further 10 minutes and BINGO water
started jetting out of what appeared to be a tiny hole which was on
the side of the top panel. Is there anything on the market that I can
use to repair the leak with or is it a case of a new radiator. i'm not
sure what kind of material the top is but it has a plastiky look to it
but I would have expected it to have been metal. Thanks, by the way I
am a young pensioner, sorry about this.

the radiators have plastic tanks and need replacing after about 10
years. just buy a new one. the aftermarket types are not too expensive
    and work just fine.

Assuming you mean by "top panel" The top section of the radiator, then the
only sure fix is a new radiator. Replace the hoses as well.

For a temporary fix, see if you can find Permatex's radiator repair
    stick in your area:

    http://www.permatex.com/products/automotive/specialized_maintenance_repair/radiator_fuel_tank_repair/Permatex_Gas_Tank_Radiator_Repair.htm

I've used it while waiting for a mail-ordered radiator to arrive.

Recommend Modine or Koyo radiators and Gates belts and hoses.

BTW, Modine merged with TransPro to form Proliance. Usually USD$150 or
    so online.

The Permatex temporary fix may actually seem more than "temporary"
depending on the location of the hole. Just make sure you clean the
area very well and lightly sand the plastic top tank and clean off the
dust in the area so the putty can stick solidly to the plastic.

  7. I'm not a fan of Modine, though for different application than in a Honda...
(I work in the heavy vehicle manufacturing industry).

The QA system at Modine leaves a lot to be desired, and they are very
hesitant to admit when they made a mistake.

The rads for passenger vehicles and heavy vehicles are made in different
plants, but its the philosophy I can't stand.
