HONDA CRV 1996 2000 PETROL HEAD GASKET?

  1. I would be grateful for any information regarding my Honda CRV 2000
petrol auto 1996. I have had the vehicle for about 4 years, it has
78000 on the clock. I love the CRV although recently everything seems
to be going wrong at the same time. In the last 3 months exhaust fell
off, tyres wouldn't seal on the alloys, new alloys, new tyres. I had a
full service on it last year. The new problem is that when I pull up
after a few miles steam comes out from under the bonnet. I open up the
bonnet and see water splashes over the front top part of the engine. I
couldn't spot any obvious leaks, waited for it to cool down and
refillled the expansion bottle and topped up the radiator. The same
thing happens. The temperature gauge is always at mid point and
doesn't move. I am sick to the stomach to think this could be a head
gasket and how much it would cost. Can you offer me any advise on what
I can check, and roughly how much repairing a head gasket would cost.
Different people are suggesting, water pump, thermostat, head gasket,
etc etc but I dont know where to start.
