    Hello,

I read a lot of posts about the Honda's AT but I did not find an
    answer if this is normal:

    1. Several week ago I bough 1995 Accord LX with 82 000 miles driven by
a old lady. All maintenance was done at the dealership according to
    the schedule.

The car runs perfect except a small thing: When I put the car in
Direct (from neutral or park) I feel that the transmission engages
once (a small "push"), then 1.5-2 second later I feel a second "push"
and then I can drive. Sometimes the second push is not noticeable. But
most of the times I'll have to wait for the second push to drive
    (which
is around 2.5 secs). Other then that the tranny shifts perfectly fine
and my mechanic said it shifts actually a lot smoother then most 92-97
    accords.

    Is my transmission double-engaging normal?

    Thanks

If the tranny does not engage as soon aa you place the selector
in drive, something is not right. I would take the vehicle back
to the dealer and have it annualized and the defect corrected
before any further damage occurs, if it were me.

  3. Sounds kinda drastic to me. Is this "annualize" thing something you
    learned as a "design engineer"?:p

Yes. My 99 Accord does the same thing. I thought this was a design feature
    to soften the engagement.

This is true (my 91 does the same), remember the Honda auto box is unique in
that it does not use a planetary gearset, it is more like a computer
    controlled maual box.
Hence firmer shifts than other makes, but also a more sporty feel and less
    power loss.

No, something my automatic spell checker assumed I meant
to print I suppose. If I miss type and the spell checker
wants to use another word that fine with me, I don't have
time to proofread. Un any event my degree is in metallurgy,
    not English LOL

  7. Hmph - sounds like you're as good with computers/software as you are with
    cars.

That's oblivious...but not only for spelling reason either.

For what it is worth, I have the same thing on a 2003 EX v6 w/Navi --
Well folks, I just went to the dealer to pick up my car, which I
dropped off yesterday for it's first oil change and some rattles. I
also asked them to check the tranny because it took a bit to engage
    into drive from P, R or N (1 2 second delay to engage D). No biggie, I
thought... I was hoping that they would say that this is
normal.....been like this from day #1 Nope, "Re manufactured
Transmission" has been ordered. Service told me that this is not
"normal". They also told me that they have replaced transmissions on
other '03's. I didn't ask for details but I did want to let you all
know because I have seen posts on these boards with this same symptom.
Question: They tell me that a "Re manufactured Transmission" is not a
"re built transmission" because ALL the innards are new (perhaps used
casing) and it's not assembled in an assembly line, but rather by
humans at Honda motors... Is this true? I also demanded a new torque
converter.. they told me that Honda only sends them as together to
eliminate contamination concerns. Does anyone have the facts on these
two items? Anyone out there work or have worked in Service? Lastly,
has anyone had a tranny replaced before? If so, what everything right
after that major repair (alignment, rattles, no damage, etc.) They
tell me that the car will not need wheel alignment. Can anyone confirm
that? Sorry for the long post, but given all the tranny issues and
questions, I thought the replies to this one would be helpful for
    others as well. Thanks!
