Any idea what would cause loss of 5th gear (manual tranny) in 1992 Honda
Accord EX? Shifter remains in 5th gear but makes a horrible grinding noise
(like gears not meshing). Reverse gear works fine. Dealer hasn't seen the
car, but thinks 5th and reverse gear have separated.

Any thoughts? If I need a used transmission, do you know of a good source
near western MD/WV/southwestern PA? What does a typical used transmission
    cost?

    Thanks for your help!

  2. I don't know the power flow path on that particular tranny but the end
result is that it needs to come out and obviously be torn apart to be
rebuilt. You have to weigh the cost of this against just slapping in a good
used one. Those are really your only 2 options.

Many honda 5 speeds will suffer damage to 5th gear if the oil level is low
for an extended period of time. Having torn axel seals is a typical cause
    of oil leaks.
