    2004 Acura TSX Auto.

My dealer is going to change my transmission (Honda shipping new tranny from
    Jap)
    due to a "out-of-spec" (Feck!)

I want to know how big & complex a job that is.
How likely is it to be fecked up ?

I am going to fight for free extended warranty.

Damn..I get pissed off everytime I think of my 100% Japan imported
is going to be "Partially built in NYC" !

What are you blathering about? Obviously your 100% Japan imported
transmission was built "fecked" up and now you're getting a new one. It's
    still 100% imported.

Ha-ha.. your import is going to be assembled in the US! How horrible!!

Being 100% built in Japan didn't seem to help your tranny situation in the
    first place.
It will still be 100% built in Japan, when the Americans replace the tranny.
You're lucky that they didnt try to lie about it and charge you an arm and a
    leg
to fix your car...there ARE dealerships that might do that, you know.

Nothing is broken, car still drives beautifully.
    Nothing to do with dearler.
It's Acura's precautionary move - only certainly range of VIN affected - not
    recall.
Acura issued the service bulletin asking dealers to perform inspection to
determine if tranny is "out-of-spec" if so, inform Honda & they send whole
    new tranny.
Mine was one of the bad apple. arrrgh !

I guess when you get the oil & other fluid changes that are REQUIRED you car
will become less and less imported. Plus the Acura name is only for North
    American.

    Right on.
But we really don't need to care about the literal NAME do we ?
I care about origin of design, manufacturing and WORKMANSHIP

But as we're all saying, the design or manufacturing or workmanship or any
combination of the three is the whole reason why you're getting it replaced
    in the first place.

    You expect perpetual perfection ?
    I don't.

If that tranny had blown up on me like the Acura TL of yore -
I'd still place my vote of confidence in Jap import.

You expect perfection from anything assembled from Japan when you clearly
stated that the dealers have diagnosed your car with an "out of spec"
transmission. Whether it was in Japan or it was here, the transmission is
    "out of spec."
Apparently you think anything Japanese is better than any alternative. This
loses most of it's weight in light of your situation with your transmission.
That's called blind faith. Ignorance is bliss, isnt' it?

  10. Perhaps it is your own stupid fault for living in NYC. Or perhaps it is
your own stupid fault for believing the Japanese to be incapable of
    building defective products.

Either way, your current misery is your own stupid fault.

It is a big and complex job but it is also something that the dealer
does everyday and not likely to get messed up. I wouldn't be overly
    worried about it.

Can we adults stop talking in the EXTREME ?

No, Japan, Germany, US...whatever - no one is perfect, NEVER been, NEVER
    will be.
I simply believe Japanese are LESS CAPABLE of building defective products.

  13. Well, I donno, Robert...can "we"? You're the one crying in your Cheerios
about how your perfectly-engineered, flawlessly-crafted Japanese vehicle
is soon to be contaminated and sullied by having incompetent, lazy, stupid
American hands laid on it. That's considerably more extreme than any
position taken by any other participant in this thread.
Very good. Very *very* good! There may be hope for you after all.
*sigh* And you were doing so well.

    No, dailo, that's YOUR intepretation.
    I do expect LESS headaches.

    transmission.

Yes. True. Pie in my face. Again nothing is perfect. Never was, never will
    be.
For now, Jap imports still have my vote of confidence thou. Ironic...yes.

sorry to disappoint you Dan. I can't help it.

    My historic auto-headaches score board:
    Domestic: 10
    German: 6~7 (3 before warranty, 4 after)
    Japanese: 2~3
