I'm not associated with Valvoline, but wanted to pass on news of this good
deal to other Honda owners. Valvoline is making a marketing push to get
people to try their SynPower full synthetic motor oil and will send you a
rebate of up to $28 to pay for your first six quarts. I bought mine at the
local Kragen auto parts. They are one of the few companies selling a 5W-20
full synthetic oil and it is labeled as meeting both Honda and Ford
    requirements.

If you want in on the deal, the rebate form is at:

It looks like Valvoline pulled it since yesterday. Maybe so many people
responded that they took it offline or had an automatic cutoff at some
    point.

    Got mine yesterday!

At this point in time they still have one up for a free oil change worth of
    MaxLife at:

    http://www.valvoline.com/pages/rebates/rebate_form.asp?rebateid=10

I have no idea how long it will be there!

  4. Yeah well look it up here: http://msds.ashland.com/ and you'll find it is
not real synthetic oil any longer: "HYDROTREATED HEAVY PARAFFINIC
    DISTILLATE".

    Might be my fault.
I asked our Valvoline rep if that was avail;able to promote for our retail
stores, and he was going to kick it up the chain of command.

Here is the latest double speak I got from Valvoline on this topic:
The Valvoline Company sent a special $28 rebate offer via e-mail to an
"opt-in" SynPower enthusiast database. This particular offer was
limited exclusively to those particular individuals, and to those
    individuals
alone. Unfortunately, several "freebie" Internet sites found the Web
link and posted this offer, which seemingly made it appear to be available
to anyone. It is not. As a result, The Valvoline Company in the meantime
has removed this offer/link as it was exclusively intended for the original
    recipients of the special e-mail.

We have an e-mail listing of every individual to whom the offer was
sent. If you are one of the original recipients, please provide your name,
mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address, and we will check to
see if you are on the original distribution list. Just "Reply With
History" to this message. We will contact you after our review.

Again, this offer is valid only to the select SynPower member list.
    Thank you for understanding.

Of course there were no conditions of any kind printed on Valvoline's rebate
form about it being limited in any way.

What kind of company runs a marketing promotion, has it become bigger and
more popular than ever expected and then sticks it to the customers who
took them up on their offer?

No more Valvoline ANYTHING for me.

An ancillory comment for anyone considering a synthetic oil: Mobil
One, for example, is top-notch for your engine if used from the start.
If buying a used car though which already has let's say 100KMi, and
there's no history of regular and consistent synthetic oil usage, the
extra expense is a waste of money and furthermore can damage your
engine: synthetic oil can tend to clean out any built-up, packed
sludge in the seals and cause leaks.

The Dangers of Synthetic Motor Oil

Beware of synthetic oil! It can do terrible things to you and your beloved
motorcycle. It will not only leak out of your engine faster than you can put it
in, but it will also cause your oil filter to clog and implode, dumping debris
and dirt into your lubrication system. It also will make every part of your bike
permanently slippery because of its linear molecular chain dispersion action.
Then it will leak onto your kickstand causing it to retract automatically,
dropping your bike on the ground! But that’s not all...
Synthetic oil will round off your gears and spin your bearings. It will also
splatter onto your seat causing your girlfriend to fall off in the apex of a
turn and she'll never ride with you again. Synthetic oil coats your sight window
and your timing window with a whitish pro-emulsification additive that is both
non-removable and highly corrosive. Synthetic oil will completely leak onto the
ground overnight and your dog will drink it and die.

Synthetic oil will wear out your tires and make your battery leak. It will give
you the desperate need to urinate after you put your full leathers on and then
jam your zippers shut. It will contaminate your gasoline causing your bike to
stall on railroad tracks and accelerate uncontrollably near police cars. It will
make it rain during rallies and on weekends. It will lubricate your timing belts
causing them to jump teeth and break your valves to bits. Synthetic oil
chemically weakens desmodromic valves and causes the clearances to change every
six miles. Then it melts the black soles of your riding boots right before you
    walk across your new carpeting.

While riding past groups of attractive women it will cause both of your
handlebar grips to slip off at the same time so you smash your windscreen with
the bridge of your nose. It also causes your swingarm to crack, your studs to
break, and your rotors to warp, and then it voids your warranty by changing your
odometer reading to 55,555. It also dries out your wetclutch and wets your
dryclutch. It makes your clutch slave cylinder seal fail in the heaviest traffic
on the hottest day of the year while putting an angry wasp in your helmet for
    good measure.

Synthetic oil hides your 13mm socket and puts superglue on your earplugs.
Synthetic oil will scratch your faceshield and make your gloves shrink two sizes
night before trackday. Synthetic oil stole your neutral and sold it to the
Chinese for £1.25. Synthetic oil will make you grow a tail.
