I'm installing a Curt hitch on a 2G V and would like to avoid bending the
hangers, if I can. Is there a generic hanger I can get somewhere (that's a
bit longer) to replace the existing rubber ones?

I bet Midas or similar places will sell you what you need. Bending the
hanger (on the muffler) is not too bad. I used a box wrench to do the
job...just bend slightly only and it will do.

Got the Curt installed okay. I bent the hangers on the back of the muffler
a little, but wasn't satisfied with that. I could have bent them more, but
I sawed off the excess on the right rear bolt of the hitch and it's perfect
    now.

I found that the combination of cutting off the extra bolt length and
bending the hangers worked great. There is no more rattling and the exhaust
looks right from the rear of the car.
