Why don't you test out your theory by spreading a dark-colored towel across
    the dash?

Will this work in cutting road noice? It seems to me that one reason
there is so much noice is that there is a lot of plastic,
    noice-reflecting surfaces.

do a search for noise deadening material or mastic.

properly installed, it works wonders. you will want to cover most large
expanses of sheet metal, such as the interior of doors and the floor. under
    the hood as well.

the brand name stuff is Dynamat, but it is just an asphalt or rubber based
material with tacky glue on one side. cut, paste, voila. many people in
    rec.audio.car can help.
if you have rattles and loose plastic, try to replace the pastic clips. if
any break, then panels will shake. you can get replacement clips from the
    dealer.

i buy it from mcmaster carr
    www.mcmaster.com
for $50 and some effort, your car will be quiet like a cadillac. the thin
    glass, thats a different story.
