    Hi,
Can someone tell me the primary and secondary ignition coil resistance
specifications for 91 Civic STD HB?
I am having intermittent starting problems. I checked the ignition coil and
    I got the following readings:
    Primary: 0.8 Ohms
    Secondary: 12K Ohms
Is it possible that the ignition coil is faulty? any help would be greatly
    appreciated.

  2. www.autozone.com 's free repair guide for the 91 Civic says

Resistance will vary slightly with coil temperature. Specifications are at 70°F
(21°C). Check that the primary winding resistance between terminals A and B is
0.6-0.8 ohms. Check that the secondary winding resistance between terminals A
and the coil tower is 9760-14640 ohms.

Haynes says it should be 0.3-0.5, that is why I was confused.

  4. The Autozone site says 0.3-0.5 ohms on the primary is the spec for 1988-1989
    models.

When measuring very low resistance, make sure you allow for the
resistance of the test meter's leads.

    Sounds about right.

  6. Yes, the resistance can be perfect but still faulty. Observe the
check engine light, gas smell and spark if it won't start.

    killfile? ouch.

so come on "caroline", spill the beans. we all want to know the story...

indeed, the coil's windings can be intact, but the insulator, [oil or
whatever] is breaking down so the high voltage is leaking, and even
    then, that can be intermittent.

Go to AdvanceAuto and buy their sparkplug tester.
It will cost you about 10.00$ US and will show you if you
have a hot enough spark. I checked a friends Nissan
last wekend, and while he had "spark" it was very weak
hen compared to my civic. He replaced the coil, and whamo,
the problem was gone. I love this cheap tester.
It has helped me fix 4 vehicals since August.
It has an adjustable, "calibrated" gap.
    Cheap is good.
