    Hi all,

My friend is about to buy an Acura 1.6 el, manual transmission, with
about 190,000km on it, year '98. The car feels and drives great.

However, it has a 'revving' sound when in first or second gear. The
best I can describe it is as the sound produced by a bike tire when
    touching the bent fender.

The current owner said it's always been like that. We are not
experienced mechanics so we don't know whether its the gearbox or the
muffler etc. The sound is not present when reversing the car.

Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated.

    thanks,
    vlad

get the timing belt inspected and/or changed /immediately/. they tend
to make noise like that if over-tensioned or fraying prior to failure.
very expensive. pay a price that allows for belt change and you should
    be ok.
