    Hello:

    Have a 2004 Accord LX.
The following relates to my car, but have noticed most newer cars also seem
    to have this.

Regarding the periphery of the front windshied, where there is the black
band of clear and dark dots for perhaps 1 inch from the edges:

Not sure if this is used for window alignment when they built the car, or
supposed to be anti-reflective, but have just placed a XM
satellite radio antenna in the extreme front of the windshield dash (inside
the car) where it is partially blocked by this black dotted band.

My question is: are these black dots and band in any way metallic ?
e.g., is the paint metallic ?

If it is metallic, I guess it will be a no-no for the antenna placement.

BTW: what is the purpose of this "band" ?

    Thanks,
    Bob

Cosmetic. Is called a "frit". It is baked-on enamel paint. Now that
you know what it is called, you should be able to search out some more
    info.

Bob, it's just an optical 'mask' so you dont see the gunky mess around
the edge of the window gasket, from the outside or inside. I don't know
if it would scrape off, but it shouldn't matter since it's just
    silk-screened on.
