American Honda is announcing a warranty extension for the automatic
transmission on all 2000-01 Accords, Odysseys, and Preludes. The
automatic transmission and torque converter are now covered for a total
of 7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date of
original sale. We are providing the warranty extension because a higher
than normal number of automatic transmissions in certain vehicles may
have problems due to defects in material or workmanship beyond the 3-
year, 36,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty. "

This is an excerpt from a letter sent out by Honda to original owners. It
    also states:

" If you already paid to have the transmission repaired or replaced,
refer to the reimbursement form included with this letter. "

    .....

    "Reimbursement eligibility

You may be eligible for reimbursement if you previously paid for
    automatic transmission repairs.
    - You must have had your vehicle repaired before receiving this notice.
    - You must have owned the vehicle at the time of repair. You are still
eligible if you no longer own the vehicle.

NOTE: Any incidental expense or inconvenience you may have suffered due
to the loss of use of your vehicle is not reimbursable.

    To apply for reimbursement

    - Complete the attached Request for Reimbursement form.
    - Include a copy of the repair receipt or invoice for the previous
transmission repair. This should show your vehicle's model, VIN, license
#, the name and address of the facility that did the repair, the cost of
the rapair (parts and labor), and the date the work was completed.
    - includde a copy of the cancelled check, bank statement, cash receipt,
or credit card receipt showing that you paid for the repair.

    - mail the completed Request for Reimbursement form and copies of the
    receipts and invoices to:

    American Honda Motor Co.,Inc.
    Automobile Customer Service

    P.O. Box 2964

The form asks for name, current address, daytime phone, VIN, mileage at
time of repair, requested amount of reimbursement, towing charges amount
reimbursement (if any), and name of repair shop.

I just thought someone might find this info useful when searching the
usenet for solution to their honda automatic transmission problem,
especially if they bought the car used and did not receive this update.
