Hello All I was changing my oil yesterday when I happen to notice that the inner corner of both front tires were worn out and the belt was beginning to show. The rest of the tire is in very good condition. I think that there is an alignment problem (even though I can't feel the car shifting towards the right or left) but wanted to ask everyone if it could be the rims that were replaced. The car's stock rims are 14" which were replaced with by my cousin with 15" GS-R rims. As I have the LS model was there any change in the size of the wheel well between the two models? I don't hear the tires rubbing up against the wheel well but wanted to get people's thoughts on this issue. The front tires are 205/50/15 Bridgestone Potenza RE730s and the rear are 195/55/15 Dunlop SPSPORT 8000. As the rear tires have been placed on the front a while back, they also show the same sign but no belt is showing as of yet. Unless someone says otherwise that this isn't an alignment issue, I'll get that and a new set of tires this week. Thanks for your time, Nick
One other thing I forgot to mention is that I am inflating the tires to the GS-R spec (35 PSI front 33 PSI Back) on the 15" Rims should I only be inflating them to the 14" spec? Thanks, Nick
When did you hit a curb?????? Yes this is a alignment issue, likely a bent LCA from a minor curb check. A known Honda weak point.
Thanks for the info. I can't recall ever hitting the curb (as I rarely ever park my car in the street) so it must have occurred sometime a while ago when my cousin was living on campus in an apartment. I will get 2 new tires and an alignment this week and hope for the best. Thanks, Nick
Sounds like an alignment issue. If the wear pattern is the same on both sides, it would point to a bad alignment job. Or, the car's been lowered without an alignment job done after the modification. The excessive wear would be more noticeable on a 15x7 inch rims. The '7' refers to the width of the rim which is much wider then the stock rim (stock is about 5.5 inch wide). If the toe-in/toe-out alignment is off, the uneven wear would have more of an effect on the wide rims (which are usually fitted with low profile tires that don't flex) Pars 98 DX Hatch
One additional question that I have is at what tire pressure should I inflate the tire to? The GS-R 15" tires should have 35/33 PSI and the LS 14" should have 29 PSI. I have been inflating the tires to the GS-R spec but I want to make sure that I am not over inflating the tires. Thanks, Nick
Check the sidewall of your tires for max inflation pressure. It should be at least 36 psi. As long as you do not exceed that number, you are not overinflating them beyond their design limit. As far as the correct pressure for those tires on your car, if they are wearing more in the middle of the tread than on the edges, they are overinflated. If more on the edges than in the middle, underinflated. If you are just seeing wear on the inside edges, then you need to get the alignment corrected before you will be able to tell anything else about the tires.
||One additional question that I have is at what tire pressure should I ||inflate the tire to? The GS-R 15" tires should have 35/33 PSI and ||the LS 14" should have 29 PSI. If later on the tires appear to be wearing more in the center than the edges, rotate the tires and drop the pressure. Personally, I never run the tires on any of my vehicles at less than 35 psi.
