I just recently purchased a 98 Prelude, the red key has been lost
which is needed to add programed keys. I was told by the Honda dealer
that without this red learning key I would have to purchase a new
immobilizer then get the new keys programmed which will be costly.

Is there any other option here? Is there a way to get programmed
duplicates made without this red key or having to buy a new
    immobilizer?

    Any ideas greatly appreciated!

What country are you in and how many keys do you have and how many of
    them work / fit?

When I bought an 01 Prelude years ago, I had a duplicate key made and the
red key was never used. In fact my red key was still in its plastic sealed
container when I sold the car. Dealer told me they did not need it any
longer. Instead they used an existing key(s). I would try another dealer.

Yes, that is what I did. Cost $50 for 1 key but it worked.
