Just had my Accord scanned..Code has been, coming and going. Showed a
    P0420.
Catalsyt efficiency below threshold bank 1. A new converter costs 800
    dollars. The
service manager, says the cat is comming apart inside. Any advice?

    110,000 miles on the speedometer.

Aftermarket performance catalytic converters(bolt-in) go for far less,I saw
a price of about $110 USD(depending on model) in Honda Tuning and Sport
    Compact Car magazines.

I believe they would work just as well as a OEM cat, youmay have to have
someone other than the dealer install it,though.any muffler shop wuold do
    it inexpensively.
For $800,you could get an entire stainless steel cat-back exhaust, too.

I just found out my 94 Accord EX (4 dr sedan) with 118,800 miles needs a
cat. converter too; it failed emission test. The price quoted by my
dealer was $35 state inspection fee, $88 diagnostic fee, $700+
converter, $200+ labor for a whopping total of $952+. I looked at
various sites and saw that $706 was the list price for the part.

Yes, there are places that sell parts for a lot less than L.P., but I
guess it's up to you whether or not to trust them. While I think my
dealer continually overcharges, I don't know who in my area doesn't. At
least, I can go back to my dealer and complain a lot if something is
done wrong or a part is faulty, and once in a while they hear me.

    Good luck.
