96 Civic - Faint whirring sound when cold

    My 96 civic has a faint whirring/chugging/ticking sound when cold
    (difficult to describe). It's not a cause for concern but I'm interested
    to know why. It can only be heard after a cold start when moving forward
    slowly at low RPMs.
