What is your cold fast idle behavior on this generation vehicle? What is
the max rpms on the coldest days (or with the thermosensor disconnected)?
    Is 1500 rpms too high?

I've got no experience with this generation car.

    Thanks.

1,500 rpm on a cold start is normal. It revs higher initially to help build
oil pressure as fast as possible, and to help heat up the catalytic
    converter quickly.

Some of the very newest cars (Toyotas, for instance) will rev to 2,200 rpm
    on a cold start.

Thanks. My kid has had the thing for about 6 months, and the Helm manual
says the max increase in cold idle is 300 rpm or so (resulting in a max cold
idle of 1000 rpms or so), but I've come tothe conclusion the manual is
    wrong.

    Thanks again.
