95 civic automatic transmission

    I got my oil changed on my 95 civic (77K miles). They checked the auto
    transmission fluid and noticed that the dipstick was chewed up and had been
    grinded.

    Is this common and does anyone know the cause and solution?

    Maybe the previous owner lost the dipstick, and substituted one that
    wasn't the right length, and had to shorten it? ?

    Maybe he used it to push the vegetables into his health-food juicer ? I
    dunno. :)
