94 Honda Civic -- a/c diagnosis?

    I would love your input on my recent A/C problem.

    All was fine and dandy, then the a/c started blowing warm
    occassionally. I would turn it off and on again and it would kick back
    up. But then it just went out completely: no cold air although the fan
    still blows air into the car. When I do try to run the a/c, a loud
    screeching noise occurs, and it gets louder when I accelerate.

    If anyone wanted to try to diagnose this, I would surely appreciate
    it!! I am rather naively hoping that it's a belt and not a costly
    repair.

    With the a/c running, grab one of the hoses and give it a squeeze. You
    may be low on refrigerant. bob
