Picked up my 2000 Odyssey EX last week. I remember seeing some postings in this group about not changing the break-in oil for 7000 miles. I'm not sure if that includes the Odyssey and can't find it mentioned in the owners manual.

I could have missed it, because the book is a lot larger than it was when I bought my 88 Lude. Matter of fact wasn't sure just what the panic button on the key fob did till I tried it. Even though the van was in the garage, it brought out the neighbors to see what was causing those flashing lights and honking horns in my garage. (Blush)

Would appreciate anything you can terll me about 7000 mile first oil change as it pertains to the Odyssey.

According to Honda WEB:

http://www.honda2000.com/owners/service_parts/faqs_fluids.html

Why should I wait to change the oil the first time?

Your Honda engine was delivered with an oil that is specially formulated for new engines that have not yet developed their "natural" wear patterns and may contain minute particles from the manufacturing process.

American Honda strongly recommends this special oil be left in the engine long enough for these wear patterns to develop, usually until the first maintenance interval specified in your Owner's Manual, based on your specific driving conditions.

Also, according to my Odyssey manual - 7500 miles.

(1999 Odyssey) I was going to be on a road trip when the odometer turned over 7500 miles, so I was going to have my oil changed before I left. However, my Honda dealer suggested waiting until I returned to have the special break-in oil replaced.
