the camshaft bear spun, looks like it went dry. So why did it go dry? engine has 145k, since there is a lot of metal is it worth replacing just the camshaft?

I need to know why it went dry before I proceed as I do not want the problem to happen again. DSC02970.JPG

I assume I would need a new cylinder head since there are no replaceable bearings
