The van has 100K miles and AC stopped working. A repair shop did evac and recharge and wanted to check for leaks in a week. Is this standard protocol? Also, is it worth spending on new AC compressor , cooling flush, and valve cover gasket estimated at $2300, if I plan to use the vehicle until 200K. Spend $2500 last year on timing belt and other services. Trade-in value of the vehicle is $3000 and private party sale value $5500. Any thoughts?

I just had a 2010 totalled because of an accident. It had 150K miles on it and never had A/C issues. I would take it to another shopper evaluation. The A/C in my 2006 Accord stopped working. Installed a new compressor ($2500) only for the A/C to still not work. Took it to a dealer to find out that the power control module wasn't distributing power to the compressor. Another $1300 later and the A/C compressor worked.
