    Hello all,

I was working on my wife's leaking 2007 Honda Odyssey today and changing the oil housing assembly gasket. I had no issue removing the oil housing assembly, but because two different gaskets (one for the oil housing assembly and the other was a figure 8 shaped O-ring) came with the part I ordered, I assumed that I ought to replace this O-ring as well while I had the car jacked up and the tire off. I quickly realized that it did not go on the oil housing assembly on my Odyssey. Short story long, I looked at a Youtube video that led me to remove a cylindrical shaped part just above the oil housing assembly that partially inserts into the motor housing. It was mounted with 2 10-mm bolts. After realizing that this part did not have the mystery figure 8 type 0-ring/gasket that came with the part ordered, I attempted to reinstall it with no success. I cannot seem to insert it properly now to align the bolts. It appears to have a bar mechanism inside that moves slightly when I attempt to insert the part but I'm not sure if it isn't keeping me from reinserting the part. Firstly, can anyone tell me what this cylindrically shaped part is? Secondly, Is there some special process or technique needed to reinstall? I'd appreciate any advice!

Thanks for your input Palene. I would have loved it if it were something I could work on. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the timing belt tensioner. Fortunately, I have a great mobile mechanic who was able to fix my potential disaster in an hour flat by examining the timing belt, decompressing, and reinserting the tensioner. Praise the Lord, I had not attempted to start the vehicle. That would have been a disaster and potentially the end of the engine! I appreciate you trying to help me Palene!
