2002 Odyssey power door open problem

Discussion in 'Odyssey' started by Vince Pfeifer, Nov 8, 2003.

  1. I have recently begun having problems with the power doors on my 2002
Odyssey. If the feature is switched to the "On" position, I the car will
begin giving me the warning buzz as if the door is open while I do not have
the vehicle in Park. If I press the "Close" switch, the warning buzz will
stop but it is bound to start again in a few minutes.

The buzzing does not start with much of a bump to the vehicle but I assume
that for some reason the system thinks that the door has opened. has
anybody had this problem and figured a way to fix it without a trip to the
    dealer?

    Thanks in advance.

Try cleaning the contacts on the door and the post where the door meets
when it closes. I seem to recall that folks were using a pencil eraser,
and some were using contact cleaner for this. You can find much
discussion on www.odyclub.com. I have not experienced any power door
problems (knock on wood) in my 2001 Odyssey, now at 63000 miles.

I had the same problem. Clean the contacts. You can also give a quick
spritz of a WD-40 type cleaner, too.

Same problem here with my 2000. If you look closely, the contacts
build up a slight amount of corrosion. The metal starts looking dull.
I'd guess this is the result of the small electrical currents that
pass through them on contact. I carry a hard eraser in the glove box
and when it happens (about every 3 months), I just rub the contact
down with the eraser. So far it's worked everytime.
