Just returned from a Costco run and at the 3rd last set of lights before
home, the clutch depressed to the floor normally, but then just stayed
    there!

After pissing off a line of cars behind me for about 5 min, I found that
I could pull the clutch off the floor manually and then the spring would
kick in and return it to the normal position. If I fully depressed it
again - it would stick again. I was able to limp home by only pushing
the pedal 3/4 of the way in - enough to be able to change gears - and
    the pedal would spring back.

My first thought was, of course, the floor mat, but that wasn't even
    close to it.

    Any clues? Master Cyl?

I wonder if there's a problem with the clutch pressure plate.

Follow-up: Had it towed to dealer on Sunday. Got a call saying that
"they're not sure" what's wrong with it, but they're going to start with
    the slave...
I think that's mechanic's talk for "We're going to start replacing stuff
    til' it works"

And as a folow-up to my follow-up: they just called and mentioned that
my time is up for a timing belt... <shudder>

I had exactly these symptoms with a 97 Accord. It was the slave cylinder.
My roadside assistance managed to get me up and running by refilling the
system, and then I drove the three or so miles to my mechanic slowly and
    carefully!
