2001 prelude Locking mecanisms keeps locking

Discussion in 'Prelude' started by Michael Scarlett, Sep 3, 2004.

  1. lately whenever i'm driving and I lock my doors via the lock button -
driver or passenger side- my locking mecanism keeps trying to lock
itself. You hear it litterally trying to lock itself over and over
again. The annoying thing is that its intermittent. It'll go for a
little while and the stop. then lets say if i press the horn it'll do
it again. it seems to have no pattern to it.
I'm worried that it'll keep doing it over and over and then burn
something out, like the electrical system or something.
I have 2001 'lude i bought it brand new and i've never had this
    problem.
    Does anyone know anything?

I have an 01 and have experienced occasional random lockings, but not to the
extent that you apparently have. My thoughts are that is is the transmitter
which works throught the radio. No solutions, though.

I had this problem with an old Lincoln I used to own. If I remember
correctly the mechanic found it was either the battery or alternator, or
    both.

  4. well it seems like it isn't a new problem seems to have to do
something with the wireing in the door panel. most likely you opened
it for whatever reason and F up the wiring. heres a good thread

Did the 01 Preludes stick the receiver for the remote door locks/alarm in
the radio like some Civics did? The 99 lude has a separate receiver in the
left side panel by the rear seat and is not tied to the radio at all.
Further, once the key is in the ignition, the remote transmitter is locked
    out from actuating the locks.

It appears either to be bad lock actuators (some older Accords had 'cycling'
actuators) or more likely one of the multiplex control units/wiring may be
bad. The 99 lude has 3 control units which interface with the locks - in
the passenger kick panel, driver side kick panel, and driver's door (built
into the power window master switch). The service manual has 10 pages of
control unit diagnostics and 13 pages on door lock/receiver/transmitter
diagnostics. But nothing about cycling actuators.
