1990 Honda Prelude Si owners father asking for help...please?

Discussion in 'Prelude' started by 1990hondapreludesiowner, Dec 8, 2003.

  1. My 18 yr old daughter (Dion) recently was told that she needs a rec lovew control arm for the left front tire. I am saying this up front........I love my daughter very much but I am not the least bit mechanically inclined!! SO, I am happy that this service is available.

The quotes so far for her part is $162 for the part and $175 to install and another $70 for an allignemnet. I would like for someone mechanically inclined to advise me on what to do next....i.e. She also just put 4 new tires on and I hope we are okay for a few days!!

Should I search for used part? Is this a common problem for this model? Thanks in advance for your advice and comments on this.

    Sincerely,

    David

I don't know about the control arm, but let me recommend you the "lifetime
alignment" that Firestone offers. For 140 you can have your car re-aligned
as many times as you need. I take mine every 5K miles, and I am sure it will
keep my tires in a good shape for a long time.
Note: I also have the lifetime balance.

Ask for a second opinion from another reputable shop or perhaps a local
dealership. If the repair is absolutely required then go for it. If you're
not mechanically incline, don't tackle the job. Did she went up the curve
    or something?
