1988 Civic; engine misses and lacks power

  1. Hello,
I appologize about the redundancy--I didn´t know if people on the board
would prefer splitting apart the unrelated questions or one huge message.
I´m stuck in Mexico with car problems right now so I would greatly
appriciate any and all help. The mechanics here are not at all familiar
with old Hondas so I´m finding repairs impossible.

    Symptoms:
    1) When cold the car is hard to start. It turns over fine, but won´t
"catch" until around 3 tries. I normally press the gas too--don´t know if
    this matters.

    2) The engine seems to "miss" frequently when accelerating. The sudden
loss of power causes the car to jerk. This problem also seems to mostly
disappear when the car is driven for an extend period of time.

    3) The check engine light is on with the code 6--coolant temperature.

    4) The engine lacks power. It also seems to be consuming more gas than
    normal.

    Things the machanics have replaced:
    1) Plugs

    2) Fuel filter

    3) Fuel Injectors (used to have an error code for this)

    4) Oxygen sensor

    Thanks,
    Brian

I'm not a mechanic, but If I were to take a wild guess, it could be the
thermostat. It's not letting the engine reach optimum operating temperature by
    remaining in an open loop.
