Just bumped into a site that sells a 17" panoramic rear view mirror
that is attached onto an existing mirror in the vehicle .

looks like it covers a very wide angle , with minimal distortion...

did anybody had experience with this kind of mirrors ?
The product description is in this link http://www.widemirror.com/Products.html

    Thanks

Your advertising intention is too obvious.

One the road, the main function for the rear view mirror is to insure that you are
not changing into a lane, when another vehicle moving much faster then yourself, is
about to overtake in the same lane. To insure you're not putting yourself into
harms way, you would need to be able to easily judge the velocity of the vehicle in
your rear view mirror (with only a quick glance). Those panoramic review mirrors
that distort your depth perception would hinder that ability.

They'll be slapped with a huge liability suit when the first wreck
occurs because someone misjudges the distance of a car overtaking
them on the right or left. Company will probably go bankrupt them,
ruining the lives of the owners.

Of course, that doesn't concern you, does it?

you can get about 5 variations of that thing at pep-boys or autozone. One
of them is called "The LaneChanger" it even has red marks toward the sides
indicating Danger if a car is in that area.

I was just rattling his cage, since he's obviously advertising the
product he's selling on this newsgroup.

"Just bumped into a site that sells...."?

    Yeah, right.

Ok, I'll admit that I know about the "LaneChanger" because I bought one. I
thought it was a good idea, but it makes it very hard to judge distance and
speed when it is distorted. It stayed on for about a week and soon became a
running joke with all my friends.

My spouse has one of these on her 2003 CRV - she doesn't like or cannot
make use of her side mirrors. I tried it out and I do NOT like it. It
does cover the area of the passenger side mirror, but the car images are
smaller and less likely to get your attention. It does NOT catch the
driver's side blind spot, but neither does the side mirror. My wife
rotates the mirror to the left to see the driver's side blind spot.
This works but is very awkward and distracting. I personally like the
$2.00 mirror from Pep Boys that sticks on the lower right hand corner of
the outside driver's mirror. Blind spot cars completely fill the stick-
on mirror from side to side.
