    Like I said above...

You'll be waiting at least a year, I'm sure.

So take it to a different dealer and exercise your right to keep
silent. Just ask them to check it out. If they can't find an obvious
impact mark/chip on the glass they should replace it.

Or ride behind some 18 wheelers until one of them kicks up a stone. Or park
in the middle of a bunch of kids throwing stones at each other.

  4. Heh... Here in Texas, folks drive for years with cracked windshields
where inspection requirements are lax. OTOH, they' fail you if there is
so much as a chip in a sealed beam.

Of course, some states don't allow such so they will fail inspection.

    Howz da weathah up thar?

My province doesn't have an annual inspection, so you can drive around
forever like that if you want. I see few cracked windshields in spite of
that; people seem to fix them quickly on their own.

Bloodly cold. Supposed to go down to -4F overnight. Sucks.

    6:07AM: Thermometer says -15F.

Weather channel says it's going to WARM UP to -4F.

    Blah.

  7. Durned global warming! ;-) Although I hear the global warming model - and
Madame Zindar on the outskirts of town - predicted that.

Huh? Either you don't understand what I'm trying to say here or
    you're just a jerk.

The point is by telling the dealer they hit it with the wipers the OP
gave them an out to deny the warranty claim. Go to a different dealer
and just ask them to adjust the windshield without making any
explanation and they probably will do it.

It's not called 'global warming' any more - now they call it 'climate
change' so they can include events like the deep freeze that we're
experiencing now and not change their charts and still blame 'man'
    exclusively....

  11. Yep, a form of the "dance 'n twist!"

Despite virtually all of the current raw climate data pointing toward a
continued cooling, (a cyclical norm), they still pout, cry and whimper
    chicken little tunz.

    Ya gotta luv 'em!

much more likely there was a pre-existing stone chip or other surface
    defect.

in the lab, glass can be incredibly strong. just amazingly so. but in
the real world, the slightest flaw leads to fracture. that's why
toughened glass is strong, not because it's not flawed, but because the
flaws it has are kept under compression so the un-flawed part of the
glass, the center not exposed to atmosphere, retains strength.

as for your windshield, you may be able to use one of those acrylic repair
kits. than can achieve very good results when done right.

Yeah, but I once watched a chip turn into a huge crack in front of my
eyes when I turned the defroster on on a cold, bitter Dallas winter
    morning.

But yeah, I've seen some pretty badly beaten up windshields. I've
also heard of some cops pulling people over and giving them tickets
for "unsafe vehicle". Judge requires proof of repair and new
    inspection to dismiss.
